Spring Classroom Sessions

Thunderstorm Preparedness~ On Average over 100,000 thunderstorms form over the United States each year. For most thunderstorms they pass over head with little to no impact on the area they are in. However there are some which cause major damage as the go by. Such damage can include high winds, large hail, heavy rain, large amounts of lightning, and even Tornadoes. This Preparedness course is designed to help you have a plan to stay safe in these Severe Thunderstorms. This class will talk about how this weather forms, and how it affects everyday lifestyle.


Flood & Flash Flood Preparedness~ How much moving water does it take to float a car? How does a wildfire burn scar effect a flood plain? What is the best way to safe guard my home from floods? These questions and more will be answered during our flood class. You will learn how to identify if you are in a High Risk flood zone, and also where and when you should move away from danger. This class will also explain how the Waldo Canyon Burn Scar plays a massive role in Flash Flood Risks in the area. 


Tornado Preparedness~ Everyone knows that when the Tornado Siren sounds to get to shelter, but most people don't realize that there is some preparations that you can do before hand to ensure a better chance of survival. This class will talk about the difference in the Enhanced Fajita Scale, Tornado Formation, and ways to prepare for a tornado impact.


Weather and Ham Radio~ Did you know that Weather and Ham Radio actually go hand in hand? This class talks about how Weather and Ham Radio operators work together, from ARES, to Lightning affecting equipment.


Ham Radio Technician Course~ This class is MEREO's Largest and longest class. Taking 3 Saturdays, Instructors will walk the participants through the entire question pool for the Technician Class Test. This class not only studies the questions given on the FCC Technician Test, but has a more hands on learning style. This is also our only class that has a course fee. The $30 Fee pays for your Ham Radio School Book, and 1 attempt at your FCC Technician Test.


FEMA ICS 100 & 200 Combo~ This class walks you through the Incident Command System 100 and 200 course from FEMA. This class gives 2 certificates needed for ARES Operations. In this class, you will learn the material for the FEMA ICS 100 & 200 Certificates, and will have an opportunity to take what you learn and play it out in a Table Top Exercise. 


FEMA ICS 700 & 800 Combo~ This class walks you through the Incident Command System 700 and 800 course from FEMA. This class gives 2 additional certificates needed for ARES Operations. In this class, you will learn the material for the FEMA ICS 700 & 800 Certificates, and will have an opportunity to take what you learn and play it out in a Table Top Exercise


Intro To Weather~ This class is designed to learn the basics of weather in Colorado. From what makes the clouds form, to the differences in terrain. This is a fun and informative class that gives a new look into what creates our wild weather.

 

Winter Classroom Sessions

Winter Weather Preparedness~ In Colorado we have the possibility of getting a severe blizzard, or even an Ice Storm. This class is designed to show what causes the winter conditions, and also what you can to to better prepare for such conditions.


Black Out Preparedness~ Everyone in the country is susceptible to a black out in their home, but are you ready for a multiple day blackout during extreme weather conditions? This class offers a perspective on how you can prepare for a multiple day power outage, and what you can do to keep safe.

Go Bags 101~ The TV has shown an extreme way on Go Bags, a.k.a Bug Out Bags. This class shows what you need to have for up to 3 days of supplies at your home, 2 days of supplies in your car, and 1 day supply at your office. This is the recommendations from FEMA and Ready.gov to provide you with a better chance of survival without selling your house to pay for the items. This class also has a Workshop portion that will help with finalizing what you need in these go bags.

Emergency Communications~ During an emergency there are many ways to receive the information needed to be better prepared during the disaster. This class not only shows what forms of communications are available to the public, but also helps with using the equipment as well.
